cloudy and mile for the rest of the day. return 9 year old killed developing news. authhorities on the lookout this morning for a man who broke into a northern california home and killed a 9-year-old girl. it happened in valley springs, about 45 minutes north east of stockton. police say the victim's 12- year-old brother saw the man running out of his house last night. sister had been stabbed. residents to keep their doors locked. the intruder is considered armed and dangerous. pittsburg suspect sketch new this morning. pittsburg police released this sketch of a suspect whoold girl from her front yard friday afternoon. police say the toddler was with her mother playing in the front of their home when this man picked her up and started running. the suspect got about 50

feet away from the house but was startled when the girl's mother yelled after him. he then dropped the girl into some bushes and ran off. police say the toddler was unharmed. the suspect's vehicle is described as a maroon or burgundy ford explorer or similar vehicle. four men are recovering after a scary day on the bay yesterday. their boat caught fire just before ten near candlestick point. we shot this video from a distance but you can see the smoke and helicopters flying above that boat. the men were rescued by emergency crews. they told authorities they were on the bow of the boat when they heard an explosion. one of the four men was taken to the hospital. he has since been released. three others were treated on the scene. the boat is a total loss. san jose firefighters say that a five-acre vegetation fire on communications hill was started by a cooking fire at a nearby homeless encampment. the fire was reported shortly before two yesterday

afternoon near hillcap and hillsdale avenues. firefighters had difficulty getting to the fire because of high winds. so a cal- fire helicopter was called in. crews managed to get the fire under control just after 3:30. there were no reports of any injuries. a man who escaped from a police patrol car after being arrested in redwood city has been found. the suspect, juan carlos valencia, is accused of beating up his girlfriend. kron four's philippe djegal has more on what happened. >> the suspect was placed under arrest. he is in violation of a restraining order. neighbors reported

the assault on the 2700 block of devon shire ave. sups suspect was placed in the backseat of the patrol car. the lindsey a beat and injured his girlfriend. yesterday afternoon alicea was located in mountain view and placed under arrest again. the sheriff's department's say his escape was an isolated incident. a suspect on the loose after an attempted robbery in burlingame goes wrong. police are on the hunt for a bank. the man you see is accused of trying to rob the bank of america on el camino real. police say on thursday he passed a letter to a teller demanding money, and flashed a gun

as she scrambled for the money, the man's fake mustache started falling off.and then he ran off, without any money. local reaction to the failed crime was mostly making fun of the suspect. >> this is funny. this story is too funny >> mustache falling off and he didn't do any serious harm so that's great news. all's well that ends well i guess. no one was injured during the incident, and police believe the man was acting alone. he's described as a man in his 50's, 6 feet tall and thin. the bay area community of martinez is gathering to help out the hern family this morning. aaron hern is the 11-year- old injured during the boston marathon bombings. us live from alhombra high school in martinez with the details. good morning mike. good morning and it really was a community wide effort.

there will be food music and a raffle to raise money for the return family. 11 year old aaron hurt is out of the hospital pedal. aaron was cheering on his mother at the finish line when the bombs went off in boston. he has had two surgeries and bob remains in boston. all proceeds from this event will go to the current family. the walking starts at 1040 which is the same time that the boston marist marathon started. on the flyer for today's run they have marty day's strong.

investigation of poisoned letters sent to the president, and other lawmakers. the letters were laced with a toxin called ricin. on tuesday, prosecutors dropped charges against their first suspect, an elvis impersonator from corinth, mississippi. now, another suspect is in custody. cristina mutchler has the story. f-b-i agents arrested james

tupelo, mississippi home early saturday. dutschke now faces federal charges in connection with ricin-tainted letters sent to president obama, mississippi senator roger wicker, and a county judge. his attorney had no comment on his arrest. one analyst says this investigation is moving faster than usual. >>the speed of this is being driven by how dangerous ricin is." earlier in the week, prosecutors dropped charges against another man, paul kevin curtis. curtis believes he was framed, and identified dutschke as a potential culprit. f-b-i agents searched dutschke's home and former martial arts studio, though it's not clear what they found. when asked this week if he'd ever handled ricin before, dutschke told reporters. >>"no. i wouldn't recognize ricin if i saw it." ennis carlock lives in dutschke's neighborhood, and >>"right now, i'm just glad he's off- out of our neighborhood and i hope they keep him off." the toxic letters read in

jaudon goode tends to the streetside memorial where 21 year old donitra henderson was gunned down in north oakland last wednesday while her four year son watched. they have known each other since the fifth grade. we both went into the foster again. they remained close all these years. hey best friend. jaudon called her in the last hours of her life. i asked her "best friend what are you doing in north oakland you're never in north oakland." and she said i'm going to call you again best friend cause i'm driving. i promise, i'm going to call you right back i promise. that was maybe her last call trying to tell me something. it was another shooting

death in oakland that ripped apart so many lives. and i love you best friend. and i'm going to call you right back. i love you best friend. in oakland jeff pierce kron four news two san francisco siblings are thankful to be alive and back home after a fishing trip turned dangerous, including a 14 hour swim. dan and kate suski landed in san francisco friday night after a nightmarish vacation in the caribbean. on monday, their fishing boat started taking on water. the brother and sister had to strap on their lifejackets and swim for 14 hours before reaching land. but their ordeal wasn't over yet. the siblings still had to hike through thick brush and forage for food before they stumbled across a farm worker, who was able to call for help. >"guage for direction"

a man hunt under way in northern california this morning. after a stabbing that left a 9-year-old girl dead. it happened in valley springs, about 45 minutes north east of stockton. the girl's brother says he saw a strange man run out of their house. and then found his sister suffering from stab wounds. authorities are advising residents of valley springs to keep their doors locked while the suspect remains on the loose. they say he is armed, and dangerous. is resuming operations in a unit shut down after last year's massive fire. since the august 6 blaze, the factory hasn't been processing crude oil. instead, it's been blending gasoline, and only operating at about 60 percent of capacity. but recently, crews have started feeding oil through the unit knocked out by the fire. chevron officials say they

expect the unit to soon be fully operational. panhandling. sleeping on the sidewalk. and other types of similar behavior is illegal in some cities throughout california. but a new proposal. called the homeless "bill of rights". aims to make those things legal and is back on the table for approval this week. lead by san francisco assemblyman tom ammiano. it would allow every homeless person to move freely, rest, and solicit donations in public spaces. the bill also allows the homeless to rest, sleep or live in a motor vehicle. as long as it's legally parked on public property. it would also allow people to collect recyclables. as a means of employment. finally, it requires cities to provide health and hygiene centers with restrooms and showers. 24on tuesday. the legislation passed the assembly judiciary committee. appropriations committee. and if it passes there, on
